Born at Laurel Land Farm, Maufant, St Saviour, on 1 March 1914, he was the son of Wilfred Charles Becquet and Lillian Mary Pallot. He married Monica Lillian Lawford on 6 July 1940 and they had a daughter, Elizabeth Ann in 1947.
The family moved to St Peter in 1918 and then to Trinity, where the young Edgar attended the parish school from the age of 19. In 1939, at the age of 25, he was admitted as a Solicitor of the Royal Court, and the following May he took over the business of the late Charles Binet.
During the German Occupation he and his wife lived first at Nos y V'la, Mont Felard, then Iona, Bagatelle Lane. In 1955 they moved to Little Croft, St Saviour, and later to Rockmount de Moustiers, Trinity, the family's last home.
Edgar Becquet was elected president of the Jersey Law Society in 1969 and in 1978, at the age of 63, he was elected Deputy for Trinity. He died of a heart attack while attending a parish function in 1992.
He was a longtime member of the congregation of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Trinity.
